People who work out of coffee shops for longer than a cup's worth of coffee - what "terms" (either explicit or implicit) do you have with the place in terms of how long you stay and how much you consume?

I've had mixed experiences, depending on how often I go, whether I know the people who that run the shop, the city and neighbordhood, how popular the place is, the time of the day, etc.
