The new "money or data" policy of made me explore based apps and I'm really surprised how good they have become.
And ? It's best fun since I was "stumbling" to help Mozilla Location Service 10 years ago. 🙂

BTW any tip for a good map app that shows trails? I like , but I can't make the app show them. 🤷

@buzzdee @sesivany it requires more CPU and probably ram, to me OM is snappy while OM lags. but it's also good for adding stuff to OSM, and you can select from several map styles or, if you feel adventurous, modify one or make your own.

@buzzdee @sesivany in the money-or-data style, you can either pay for daily updates or contribute enough to OSM, and not necessarily through the app, that you get it for free :)

@mdione @buzzdee the money or data in this case is that you either pay a subscription or agree with collecting data about you and sharing it with 100+ partners to access mapy.cz.

@sesivany

I have been using everywhere exclusively for the last fifteen or so years, and especially in Czechia it worked for me quite well (even better than in more rural parts of France or Italy, and poor Croatia … there is really a lot of work to do there!).

@domdel @sesivany That is not free software, is it?

@mcepl OsmAnd seems like the best option indeed. I like the map rendering in Organic Maps better, but if they can't show hiking trails...

@domdel @sesivany

OSM is source of data, I am talking about code for the application itself.

@pavel @sesivany
and regarding to apps, all you need are data and theme ;-)
