Are there many audiophiles under 40 years old? Not just earbuds or headphones, but using separate components and speakers?
My wife doesn't mind watching TV with nothing but the lousy integrated speakers, while I insist on routing audio through my receiver - especially for movies and music.
My main PC has decent Mackie CR3-XBT studio monitors on stands. (Connected via BT due to a technical issue. Otherwise they'd be properly hard wired.)
@analogfusion What was that technical issue? *curious*
@Dianora It's weird, but I couldn't get the audio out jack on my MSI motherboard working. I've played with all of the available settings, reinstalled the drivers, used the Windows troubleshooter, etc.
I went as far as getting an RMA to return the board, but I didn't want to deal with the hassle of disassembling it all. So I finally gave up and bought a BT adapter.
@analogfusion My nephew is in his late 20s and has an impressive system that runs on vacuum tubes. It’s all part and parcel with the interest in LPs, film cameras, etc.
@alex_galt That's awesome! I'm glad the pursuit of good sound isn't dead.
@analogfusion yeah I bought my tower parts specifically for listening to music. But maybe I'm different, I use my setup to record music as well 😄
@lechindianer All the better. I have zero musical talent so that wouldn't be helpful to me. 😅
@analogfusion Yeah, I’m a little jealous. I’m not willing to spend as much (having kids as I do and not being in tech).
@alex_galt Aside from my budget turntable, most of my stereo equipment is used. I don't have the thousands to sink into the setups some people do.
@analogfusion I’m in the same camp. Audio is routed through my Onkyo receiver. Polk Audio speakers. Through various trickle-down transactions, I am left with a spare Sony receiver that I hang onto, thinking that one of my kids will want it, but they have no speakers. 😩
@tomnorthfilm I just can't imagine not having at least one decent pair of speakers. But it doesn't appear to be a thing for many people.
My Technics are probably late 80s models, but they're not bad. They don't get pushed hard most of the time.
@analogfusion I’m over 40, so I can’t speak for younger listeners. But I’ve moved four times in six years. I don’t have the resources or space for a really good setup.
@sfphotogirl That's understandable. Mine really isn't expensive or elaborate. I could get by with just the studio monitors on my PC if I had to. They're 35 watts and sound great for $100 speakers.
Years ago I had a record player running through my computer. I'm grateful that we have the space so I can spread out a bit more.
