Never before have I seen such a trash tier operating system. It doesn't even feel like you own you own computer anymore.

- Trying to convince you to create a online Live account to use your computer.

- Shoving junk you don't need down your throat. Pinning it all to the start menu.

- Begging you not to download a better browser, begging you again when you change all the web defaults by hand.

- Begging you to use OneDrive.

- Claiming that OneDrive and an online account is a "security" feature.

- Even the god damn Photo viewer app is full of junk now. And the most recommended alternative online is malware.

- Doing it all again when you run a software update.

AND trying to charge you $249.99 for a HOME license on the app store for the privilege of not owning your own computer.

Long live Linux, you'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands.

I was just able to read a Dutch post that included two screenshots of Dutch text content, even though I don't speak Dutch. How?

- The poster had kindly included ALT text for the screenshots. ❤️

- Mastodon supports machine translation (your admin has to enable it). The feature translates ALT text along with the rest of the post.

This is just one small example of the many compounding effects of attention to #accessibility.

I love that the fediverse has a pulse.

I can notice when someone is online, goes on a posting binge, or when I've not seen them in a while.

Sometimes I even spot people delete or edit their posts right after they post them. I can see posts "making the rounds" until I get sick of seeing them.

I can see the patterns underneath -- the weekends, the seasons -- reflected in what people post about. Things speed up, or slow down.

When there's a pause, only the bots keep posting.
